Amazon Web Services released another bit of surprising news today by letting everyone know they will be offering a hosted DNS solution for $1 per month per zone. Instead of handling your own DNS or using an expensive provider, you can pay Amazon an extremely low rate to handle it for you. To me, this is a bit surprising but very welcomed as Amazon continues to be the cloud industry leader in forging ahead with new services and offerings. I remember a few years back when investigating content delivery networks such as Akamai and I remember how expensive it was. Only big time players could afford having a content delivery network. Now places like Amazon are making it extremely affordable for anyone to get into these high level services that previously were out of reach. Month by month and year by year, Amazon continues to position itself as a very attractive alternative to the traditional approaches of keeping datacenters and services in-house.
